Newcastle United can open talks with Crystal Palace sensation Michael Olise, according to reports.

Various sources have named the 22-year-old as the Magpies’ top transfer target this summer. Olise made an impressive 16 goal contributions in 19 appearances for the Eagles last season.

Missing half of the season through injury remains a concern - with the French under-21 international spending considerable time on the treatment table in recent seasons. But those doubts have not done enough to negate Newcastle’s interest in the winger.

Olise is widely viewed as one of the best widemen in the Premier League. The Magpies are targeting a right-sided attacker, with questions lingering about whether Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy are good enough for PIF’s long-term plan.

Signing the Palace talisman would be a statement of intent from Toon chiefs as they face competition from Chelsea, Manchester United and Bayern Munich. Contradictory reports have speculated about his £60million and if this can only be triggered by Champions League clubs.

This would place the Bundesliga as firm favourites for his signature but competition for places in Bavaria is tough. Bayern have Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman all capable of operating on the right.

Newcastle could guarantee Olise first-team football, with Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon alongside him in a formidable attack. The Telegraph claim Palace have given permission for clubs to speak to the forward.

Reporter Matt Law told the London Is Blue podcast: “If you speak to people at the Palace end you get told quite a lot about a supposed buy-out clause, maybe as much as £60m.

“And it has been mentioned that it might only be applicable to Champions League clubs. We speak to people at Chelsea and they’re very definite that it’s not applicable to only Champions League clubs and that there might not even be an actual clause.

“So I’m very, very wary of clause talk, but there seems to be a deal that can be done for him. Like I say, those three clubs (Chelsea, Newcastle and Bayern Munich) have got permission to speak to him.”
