Miguel Almiron joined Newcastle United for a club-record £21million in 2019 and has amassed over 200 appearances

Saudi Pro League club Al-Shabab are set to revisit their approach for Miguel Almiron this summer, according to reports.

Newcastle United are understood to have rejected a bid in January for the Paraguayan international. At the time, the Magpies were suffering the peak of their injury crisis and in no position to sell.

However, they would be more open to offloading the winger now the season has finished. Almiron recently turned 30 and failed to build on his purple patch from the previous campaign.

He broke the deadlock in that memorable win over Paris Saint-Germain but highlights were few and far between in 2023-24. Just 30 goals in 209 appearances since his club-record arrival five-and-a-half years ago is not thought to be good enough for where Newcastle are going.

Almiron has remained a popular figure on Tyneside for his unrivalled work rate but many believe now is time to move on. Barring Yankuba Minteh, a youth arrival, a right-sided attacker is the only position Newcastle are yet to sign following the Saudi-backed takeover.

NewcastleWorld understand signing one is a top Eddie Howe priority this window, with question marks also being asked about Jacob Murphy’s qualities. GiveMeSport claim Al-Shabab will renew their interest in Almiron after “verbally agreeing” a £25million deal earlier this year.

The 30-year-old is thought to be keen on staying at Newcastle and fighting for his place next season. Almiron - currently on Copa America duty with Paraguay - has two years remaining on the contract he signed 18 months ago.
