Real Madrid have slapped a £43million price tag on Turkish prodigy Arda Guler this summer.

That is according to Spanish outlet Defensa Central, who claim Newcastle United have reignited their interest in the midfielder. The Magpies were interested in Guler last summer before he signed for Los Blancos.

Madrid triggered his £15million release clause to lure him away from Fenerbahce, where he had impressed in a stellar breakout campaign. But the abundance of Bernabeu talent has blocked his path to the first team.

Global superstars like Vinicius Junior, Federico Valverde and Jude Bellingham occupy attacking roles at Madrid but up-and-coming talents like Brahim Diaz also feature regularly. Throw in the more defensive-minded Eduardo Camavinga or Aurelien Tchouameni and Guler’s first-team prospects look bleak.

He did, however, take his chance to shine at the weekend as Carlo Ancelotti’s men inched closer to another La Liga title. Guler bagged the only goal of the game against Real Sociedad - opening up an 11-point lead over Barcelona.

Reports in Spain now suggest Newcastle could sign the six-capped international this summer. The youngster is viewed as the wonderkid of Turkish football and has previously been watched by Liverpool.

Madrid’s asking price would make him the record fee paid by Newcastle for a teenager - trumping the figure set by Lewis Hall. Eddie Howe does not have a natural No.10 in his squad but FFP/PSR restrictions, given his age, may force him down the list of transfer priorities, with more experienced players needed to ensure a Champions League push next season.
