Newcastle United have appointed a new academy coach to lead the under-16s team.

Ian Bogie stepped down from his position in January after almost 10 years with the club and has been replaced by Jack Brazil.

The 30-year-old confirmed his appointment on social media last week. He wrote: “On July 1st I will start a new role at Newcastle United as U16 Lead Coach. Very excited and grateful for the opportunity to work at such a well supported, forward thinking club in a football crazy city.”

Brazil returns to England following eight years overseas. He arrives having spent the past three years at PSV Eindhoven’s academy. Before that, he worked at Valerenga in Norway and the Cayman Islands.

To top up an impressive CV, Brazil recently completed his UEFA Pro Licence Module 3 alongside the likes of Arsenal under-18s head coach Jack Wilshere, former Aston Villa forward Darius Vassell, former QPR boss Gareth Ainsworth and Stockport County manager Dave Challinor.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are searching for a new under-18s lead coach after Graeme Carrick left to join Middlesbrough’s first-team coaching staff.

The 39-year-old, the younger brother of Boro head coach Michael, returned to the Magpies’ academy in 2022 having previously coached at Little Benton between 2005 and 2007.

Steve Harper, Newcastle United's Academy Director, said: "I would like to thank Graeme for his excellent work in developing our young players both on and off the pitch.

"Whenever a player of staff member moves on to first team opportunities, whether it's here or elsewhere, we can all be very proud of them.

"Middlesbrough are getting a great guy, a very good coach and we all wish him every success with his new role. The search for a new Under-18s lead coach has already begun.”
