New food hygiene ratings have been awarded to two of Newcastle’s restaurants, cafes or canteens, the Food Standards Agency’s website shows.

Branches Restaurant, at 9 Osborne Road, Newcastle Upon Tyne was handed a five-out-of-five rating after assessment on February 4.

And Persian Bite, at Persian Bite 4 Brighton Grove, Newcastle Upon Tyne was given a score of four on January 25.

It means that of Newcastle's 670 restaurants, cafes and canteens with ratings, 476 (71%) have ratings of five and just two have zero ratings.
