Newcastle United trigger £28m transfer as five-year-deal agreed with former Tottenham target - contracts

A number of Newcastle United players are out-of-contract in 2025 - as it stands.

The Premier League summer transfer window officially opened on Friday and Newcastle United have already kicked off their business.

Lloyd Kelly will become the club’s first summer signing on a free transfer from AFC Bournemouth. Kelly has penned a five-year contract, including an option of a further year, and will officially join on July 1 after the Magpies fought off competition to sign the former Tottenham Hotpsur target.

With him, the 25-year-old brings leadership having captained Bournemouth back to the Premier League in 2021-22 and versatility by being able to operate at both left-back and centre-back. He was a man in demand

“I’m really pleased to have secured Lloyd’s signature,” admitted head coach Eddie Howe. “He’s a player who’s proven himself at Premier League level and I’m certain he’ll be a great addition as we prepare for the new season.

“Lloyd is a player I’ve admired since the early stages of his career. Alongside his undoubted defensive ability, he brings versatility and leadership qualities that I believe will make him a great fit within our squad and somebody our supporters will quickly take to.

“He has plenty of Premier League experience already under his belt, yet Lloyd’s at an age where he can still develop. He has a lot of potential and I’m really looking forward to working with him again.”

July 1 is also expected to be the date Lewis Hall’s move from Chelsea is made official. The 19-year-old spent last season on loan and the Mapies have triggered the performance-related criteria to turn his switch permanent for an initial £28million.

Elsewhere, Howe’s men are looking to sign a goalkeeper, right forward, striker and another central defender, but that is likely to be dependent on who leaves the club. In order to maximise their transfer budget in line with Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules, players will have to go.

Indeed, Newcastle have some tough decisions to make, not least when you consider there are a dozen players out-of-contract in 2025. That includes the likes of Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier, who have been linked with moves away since January.

With Paul Dummett, Matt Ritchie, Loris Karius, Jeff Hendrick and Kelland Watts already told they are being released, NewcastleWorld takes a look at when every player’s contract expires:
