Winger latest

Newcastle winger Yankuba Minteh is in ‘talks’ with Everton, according to a report by talkSPORT. The 19-year-old, who plays international football for Gambia, is facing an uncertain future in the North East this summer.

He joined his current team in 2019 from OB but is yet to make an appearance. The youngster spent last term on loan at Feyenoord and was a hit with the Eredivisie giants, scoring 11 goals in 37 games in all competitions.

Midfielder not the right fit for champions

Manchester City have been urged against signing Bruno Guimaraes by Manchester Evening News reporter Simon Bajkowski. The Toon Army will be looking to keep hold of the midfielder.

Bajkowski doesn’t believe he would be the right fit for Pep Guardiola’s side and has written: “Bruno Guimaraes has been a brilliant addition to the Premier League but unless City need to replace a midfielder it is not worth budging for the Newcastle United midfielder. Even then, his £100m release clause is still too much to pay.

“The Brazilian does tick a lot of boxes in terms of City recruitment, as a ready-made star with the ceiling for an even greater level of performance. However, if nobody goes there are already more than enough bodies in central midfield - particularly considering Phil Foden will want to be playing there more and more.

“When City do need to rebuild the midfield, there is already proven talent that is younger such as (Jamal) Musiala while 20-year-old Adam Wharton has been a sensation at Crystal Palace after signing from hometown club Blackburn Rovers. City are generally good at waiting for the right players and they need to get their midfield right for five years rather than one or two.”

Duo on radar

Newcastle have made formal approaches for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Wolves defender Max Kilman, as per The Northern Echo. Howe is looking to freshen up his ranks with some new acquisitions.

Calvert-Lewin has been with the Toffees since signing for them back in 2016 from Sheffield United. His contract at Goodison Park expires in 2025 meaning they risk losing him for free next year if they don’t sell him now or in January, assuming he doesn’t pen an extension on Merseyside anytime soon.

He would boost the Toon Army’s attacking department if they are able to snap him up in the near future. If he was to arrive, it could spell the end for Callum Wilson with his situation uncertain.

As for Kilman, he is a key player for Wolves but they are facing a battle to keep hold of him right now. Newcastle could see him as someone to bolster their backline.
