Serhou Guirassy has ended speculation surrounding a potential move to the Premier League by agreeing to join Borussia Dortmund.

The 28-year-old’s €17.5million (£14.8m) release clause has generated plenty of admirers after the striker netted 30 goals in the same number of appearances for Stuttgart last season.

Newcastle United were first linked with Guirassy in January while Arsenal became the latest Premier League club to show an interest this week. But according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the player decided to stay in Germany and move to Dortmund.

Romano posted on X: “Serhou Guirassy to Borussia Dortmund, here we go! BVB have received the green light from player side after working on this deal for months. Guirassy has accepted and formal steps will follow. BVB will pay the release clause around €17.5m to Stuttgart.”

Eddie Howe’s side are set to be in the market for a striker this summer with Callum Wilson likely to leave.

The 32-year-old recently became the club’s second all-time Premier League goalscorer behind Alan Shearer, however that was overshadowed by another frustrating season on the injury front - missing 25 matches in total.

Wilson is into the final 12 months of his contract and is attracting interest from a handful of Premier League teams, as well as clubs in the Middle East and the United States.

Howe would ideally like to keep Wilson but needs a dependable back-up to Alexander Isak, who won’t be sold despite a transfer enquiry from Chelsea. The Swede scored 25 goals last term, establishing himself as one of Europe’s deadliest marksman.
