The latest transfer stories from St James’ Park as Newcastle prepare for a crucial summer transfer window

After a surprisingly quiet January window, Newcastle United fans are hoping to see plenty of transfer activity in the summer as the club aims to push itself back into the Champions League positions.

In attack, the Toon faithful have been treated to 20 league goals from Alexander Isak, making him the first Newcastle forward in two decades to achieve the feat. Meanwhile, winger Anthony Gordon has enjoyed a terrific first full season in Black and White by hitting double figures for both goals and assists.

However, Newcastle have been hugely reliant on the pair for goals due to Callum Wilson’s injury record which has seen him miss a total of 18 top-flight matches including the club’s most recent defeat to Manchester United.

The 32-year-old has just one full season remaining on his existing contract in the North East, and despite his excellent overall goal record, his future on Tyneside remains uncertain.

Newcastle are hoping to add further squad depth regardless next season, and with the prospect of another season in Europe potentially on the horizon the club have reportedly turned their attention to a two-time Europa League winning forward in Youssef En-Nesyri.

The Sevilla attacker has been on Newcastle’s radar for most of the last 18 months since helping Morocco to an unprecedented World Cup semi-final, but at the time the striker was focused on his career in La Liga.

However, with Sevilla languishing in the bottom half of La Liga and En-Nesyri scoring an incredible 19 goals, Spanish outlet Fichajes has suggested that the 26-year-old may look for a move to a club competing in a top European competition.

The outlet claims Newcastle and Aston Villa both ‘have their eyes’ on the forward who is valued at around £30m.

Meanwhile, West Ham, despite not qualifying for Europe may target the forward as well, as incoming boss Julen Lopetegui targets a reunion with his former striker.
