The Brazilian was spotted leaving Turf Moor wearing a protective boot on Sunday evening.

Magpies boss Eddie Howe said after the game: “It didn’t look good. I could see by the way he went down, I thought ‘this could be serious’.

“Apparently, it’s a deep laceration. I think the doctor, initially when he saw him, could see part of his bone, so I think it was quite deep.

“We knew immediately we had to withdraw him, but he’s in good spirits in the dressing room.

“He had a boot on, and said he was OK, so that’s great news.”

Initially, there were fears the 25-year-old could miss the beginning of pre-season after being carried off the field.

However, Joelinton has moved to reassure supporters.

Posting on Instagram, the former Hoffenheim man said: “Thanks to everyone who messaged me! I’m good, it was nothing serious.”

Howe’s side battled on without Joelinton to beat the Clarets 2-1, courtesy of a Callum Wilson double, and secured an 11th placed finish in the Premier League.
