Evan Ndicka had been linked with a move to the Premier League earlier this year.

Evan Ndicka has officially joined Serie A giants Roma after leaving Eintracht Frankfurt on a free transfer.

It was confirmed by the Bundesliga side earlier this month that the 23-year-old would officially leave on July 1 when his contract expired.

Board member for sport Markus Krosche said: “We would’ve liked to see Evan at Eintracht Frankfurt in the future, so it is a shame that he’s leaving us.

“At the same time, we would like to thank Evan for five years together, in which he’s performed regularly for us from the start at a young age. He’s played his part in Eintracht Frankfurt’s sporting success and positive development. We wish him all the best for the future.’”

In January, the French defender was linked with a £20million move to the Premier League with Newcastle United, Liverpool and Manchester United among the clubs credited with an interest.

However, Jose Mourinho’s Roma moved quickly to sign Ndicka, becoming their second signing of the summer behind Houssem Aouar, who joined as a free agent from Lyon.

“The way that the project was explained to me along with this club’s history and prestige made me want to come to Rome, which is a fantastic city that loves and lives for football,” said Ndicka, who will wear the No.5 shirt.

“I can’t wait to take to the Olimpico pitch in front of my new supporters and make my contribution towards achieving our objectives.”

Roma’s general manager Tiago Pinto added: “Despite his young age, Evan is already a mature player with a wealth of experience from one of the most prestigious leagues and he also played a key role in his previous club’s European success.

“He was a particularly sought-after player on the international stage, so we’re thrilled that he has chosen Roma.”
