Brand-new 13,000 sq foot Foot Asylum store opens in the Metrocentre - bringing 30 new jobs

Streetwear retailer Foot Asylum have launched a brand-new 13,000 square foot flagship store in the Metrocentre, which will bring 30 new jobs to the city.

The retailer which sells streetwear clothing and trainers from sports wear giants Nike, Adidas, Jordan, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein and more launched their brand-new flagship store on Friday, June 14 at 9am. 

Located in the lower Red Mall quadrant of the Metro Centre, Foot Asylum have been hosting special events to celebrate the new store, including giving customers who spend £50 in store a free haircut as part of their unique barber activation, as well as inviting Newcastle DJ Adam Dawkins to perform a set within the store.

Foot Asylum has established itself as a go-to brand for Gen Z shoppers, with collaborations with TikTok and YouTube influencers including GK Barry and Nella Rose. 

They also gained recognition during their ‘Locked In’ online series, which was inspired by Big Brother. Foot Asylum now boasts 3 million followers on YouTube, with a combined social following of over 7m.

As part of Foot Asylum’s new Metrocentre expansion, the store has a new and improved design which was previously introduced at Lakeside, Birmingham Bullring and Oxford Street in 2023.

As well as the new design and concept for Foot Asylum, the brand-new Metrocentre store has also led to the creation of 30 new retail jobs.

As well as being a spot to purchase big sportswear brands, Foot Asylum will also be selling a range of their own exclusive products. 

A spokesperson from Foot Asylum, said: “We are delighted that there is a demand for us at Metro Centre and that we can grow our footprint with a new unit at one of the top destinations in the country.”
