Coffee enthusiasts in Newcastle are in for a treat as a new speciality coffee shop is set to open its doors in the historic Grainger Town on the 29th of June. Lagom will be located at 8 Monk Street, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE1 5XD. The brand new coffee haven promises to bring the best of global coffee culture to the heart of the city.

The brainchild of two passionate coffee aficionados, the shop will feature a rotating selection of four speciality coffees at all times. Sourced directly from farmers and their families, these beans will hail from renowned coffee-growing regions in Northern and Southern America, including Mexico, Guatemala, Brazil, and Colombia, as well as African countries like Uganda and Kenya. This direct trade approach ensures fair compensation for the farmers, fostering a sustainable and ethical coffee supply chain.

Meet the Founders: Charlie Doyle and Matt Mitchell

"We're excited to bring a unique coffee experience to Newcastle," says Charlie Doyle. "Our focus is on quality, sustainability, and creating a welcoming space for everyone to enjoy."

Matt Mitchell adds, "We want Lagom to be a place where people can discover great coffee and connect with each other. We look forward to sharing our passion with the community."

Charlie Doyle is a local army veteran turned coffee influencer. With close to fifteen thousand social media followers, Charlie developed a love for coffee seven years ago, starting with a humble espresso machine at home. This initial curiosity blossomed into a deep dive into the world of coffee, culminating in extensive experience at Fika Coffee Roasters.

Matt’s coffee journey began in Melbourne, where the specialty coffee scene is legendary. Before returning to the UK, he honed his barista skills to perfection. In 2020, he turned his passion into a profession by co-founding Fika Coffee Roasters in Durham. Over the past four years, Fika has become a trusted name, supplying specialty coffee to cafes and home baristas nationwide.

More Than Just Coffee

Beyond serving exceptional coffee, the shop aims to create a community hub where coffee lovers can gather, chat, and feel at home. The shop will place a strong emphasis on filter coffees, offering customers a chance to explore a variety of flavours and brewing methods. Regular cupping sessions will provide an educational experience, allowing patrons to refine their palates and discover new favourites. Additionally, the shop will host exciting events such as latte art throwdowns, fostering a vibrant and interactive coffee culture.
